Wings
by flutterbi

She waits secluded
enveloped in her tiny cocoon
safe from the world
safe from herself

Others pass by
looking, wondering
seeing the tiny shell
not knowing of the life
that grows inside unseen
the fire the burns
the beauty that is hidden

she emerges.
One day peeking out slowly
afraid of what she may see
afraid of the unknown
so easy to be wrapped up in her shell she thinks

she sheds her skin
unfolding her wings
her beauty abounding
embracing the world once again

She is ready
stretching out she
spreads her colorful wings
and flies away
