| Spring by alluriana It was a warm spring evening, along the coast of South Brevard. Dan sat and looked into his beer for the longest time, searching for answers there that would never come. The crowd was small at Sebastian Beach Inn tonight, for that he was thankful. When did he lose so much control? He never meant for things to get this far out of hand. And yet, looking back, he saw how easy it had been for him to fall into her trap. When they met her words were like silk to him. Now he knew they were silken ropes, weaving a web of deception and betrayal that left three lives forever in ruins. His wife and daughter would never forgive him, and he was lost. Stronger than the cords of silk, they were steel strands of silk. Her words had entranced him and made him blind to the facts. Facts his friends tried to make him see, but he was mesmerized by her beauty and her smooth manner. With a deep sigh, he gulped down his beer and walked out of the Inn. Strolling slowly back home along the coast of the ocean. The beat of the waves moving him along, pounding into his brain like her trancing words had done just so recently. As he approached her bungalow he could hear the strains of soft music whispering in the air, pulling him to her. He needed her now more than if he were a junkie and she the drug. "Oh you are back, and just in time!" She radiated happiness tonight. Today must have been a good day for her. He felt the tension flow from his body. Breathing in deep gulps of air, he realized he had been holding his breath for so long. The thought of her good mood relaxed him. Good news for him, but not good for some other poor unsuspecting fool, such as he had been. She stepped aside and what he saw stopped him dead in his tracks. There, at her feet, knelt his brother, his eyes glazed over as he gazed up at her. The sight of his brother kneeling, brought crashing back the memories of his own adoration of her. Oh how he remembered the devotion, the way he used to worship her. "Allen, Wake up! Don't do this! Don't fall like I did" Dan screamed to him, but it was just in his mind, he shouted. He dared not speak out against her, lest she cast him out again. Anything would be better than that. Copyright 2000 alluriana |
